Industrial Project (Istanbul Fashion Academy x London College of Fashion/Second Year, Second Semester Project)
For our 2nd-year, 2nd-semester Industrial Project, we collaborated with the Istanbul-based brand LUG VON SIGA. Within this partnership, I designed a 6-look collection and fully produced one of these looks, consisting of two pieces: a jacket and trousers. The design features detachable pleats as a functional and aesthetic detail.
Conceptually, I harmonised my personal roots with the historical fabric of Istanbul. I narrated a '250-year return story,' tracing my great-great-grandfather’s departure from Istanbul 250 years ago and my own return today. Throughout this process, I examined the evolving artistic and historical layers of the city, focusing on the Fatih and Beyoğlu districts through the lens of tile art (çini) and architecture.
For the main fabric of the garment, I utilized Turkish-made linen woven from Belgian yarn. The jacket’s lining features a custom digital print of a tile motif, referenced directly from the Hobyar Mosque. The laser-cut floral embellishments on the jacket are inspired by the ornate marble flower carvings on the doors of Casa Botter, while the jacket's curved silhouette pays homage to the architectural form of the Tiled Kiosk (Çinili Köşk).
The pleats are crafted from a Turkish-made blend of 60% linen and 40% silk. The structure of these pleats draws inspiration from both the traditional Zeybek folk dance attire and Ottoman sultan caftans. For the styling, I designed a versatile, detachable pleat system that can also be tightened or adjusted as desired. The pleats are precisely set at a 1.5 cm interval.
